Immaculate Conception Catholic Church's 

Respect Life Ministry hosted it's first Zumba class on June 1st, 2013 in Parish Hall.  This animated group, rhumbad, jittered, whirled, strutted and bunny hopped in support of Life to the beat of $930. What better way to start a Saturday morning than to raise funds by dancing in support of love for Life?

The Respect Life Mission Statement:

The Respect Life Ministry of the Archdiocese of Miami, faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, exists to uphold the sanctity and dignity of all human life from conception to natural death.

 

This ministry is  a not-for-profit organization offering information and assistance in a non-judgmental environment. We believe every person has inherent dignity and we strive to treat everyone with respect. We believe that every woman, if loved and supported, can rise to her highest capacity in relationship to herself and others.

Regretfully, I was unable to attend tumba-la-casa-zumba because I had to work. However, as I was perusing all of the the shiny familiar faces in the Zumba crowd, I saw a few visages that were present at the Mayors ball with me the night before.  Kudos, you made it to the class after a hearty late night!

Emmazing! If you still have the energy or the will after a high octane weekend much like the one that just passed and are curious enough to Google the word “Emmaus,” and let it be known that I personally Google everything exponentially, you will find on Wikipedia a reference to  the historical identification of the place as follows:

“Many sites have been suggested for the biblical Emmaus, among them Emmaus Nicopolis (ca. 160 stadia from Jerusalem), Kiryat Anavim (66 stadia from Jerusalem on the carriage road to Jaffa), Coloniya (36 stadia on the carriage road to Jaffa), el-Kubeibeh (63 stadia, on the Roman road to Lydda), Artas (60 stadia from Jerusalem) and Khurbet al-Khamasa (86 stadia on the Roman road to Eleutheropolis). The oldest identification that is currently known is Emmaus Nicopolis”

Truth be told, after the events of this very same high octane weekend we know with exactitude that Emmaus, the location, is more than a place, or a walk or a retreat.  The word “Emmaus” denotes a greater connotation and becomes a catalyst to great emotions seeded by faith, trust and God.  The new deal is clear and it is ever so apparent that the walk is ever changing and that you no longer walk alone. The reality is that you can no longer be an armchair traveler. 

However, from my once seated position and as I rise to a fervent gate, I offer all my Sisters of the Road a congratulatory hug.  I am a better person because of all of you; it's the first Monday after Emmaus.
